Understanding Stress & Anxiety

Stress

Stress is often a response to ongoing demands, pressure, or overload. It tends to be tied to external circumstances, such as work, relationships, or responsibilities. When stress becomes chronic, the nervous system stays activated longer than it should, leading to tension, fatigue, and difficulty slowing down.

Anxiety

Anxiety involves heightened alertness and anticipation, even when there’s no immediate threat. It can show up as excessive worry, restlessness, or a sense of urgency that’s hard to quiet. Anxiety is less about what’s happening around you and more about how your system stays prepared for what might happen.

How they overlap

Stress and anxiety often reinforce each other. Prolonged stress can push the nervous system into a constant state of alert, which can turn into anxiety over time. Likewise, anxiety can make everyday stress feel heavier and harder to recover from. Many people experience both, at different times or simultaneously. Understanding how they interact helps reduce self-blame and creates space for more effective support.

These patterns don’t have to define your days. Therapy can offer a supportive space to understand what’s keeping your system activated and begin gently building more steadiness, clarity, and ease.

My Approach

My Approach

Stress and anxiety aren’t just “in your head” — they’re often shaped by deeper emotional, relational, and nervous system patterns. In therapy, we won’t rush to eliminate symptoms or push for quick fixes. Instead, we’ll move at your pace to understand what’s keeping your system on high alert.

Together, we’ll explore what’s driving your stress beneath the surface — whether that’s perfectionism, fear, early attachment experiences, or unmet needs. Rather than working against these responses, we’ll build awareness, support regulation, and help you develop a steadier, more grounded relationship with yourself and your surroundings.
