Understanding Burnout & Depression

Burnout

Burnout often develops in response to prolonged stress, pressure, or emotional demand. Over time, the nervous system becomes overextended, leaving you feeling depleted, overwhelmed, or disconnected from motivation. Burnout isn’t a personal failure — it’s a signal that your system has been asked to carry more than it can sustainably hold.

Depression

Depression tends to reach deeper into mood, meaning, and self-worth. It can show up as persistent low mood, loss of interest, emotional numbness, or a sense of hopelessness. Rather than being tied to one situation, depression often affects how you experience yourself, your relationships, and your sense of possibility.

How they overlap

Burnout and depression share many symptoms and often exist together. Ongoing exhaustion, feeling unseen or chronically overwhelmed, can slowly turn into hopelessness or loss of meaning. Likewise, depression can make stress feel heavier and recovery from burnout more difficult. Many people experience elements of both at different times or simultaneously. Understanding how they interact helps reduce self-blame and opens the door to more compassionate, effective support.

These patterns don’t have to define your life or sense of self. Therapy can offer a supportive space to understand what’s contributing to burnout or depression, explore how your system has adapted to ongoing stress, and begin gently restoring energy, clarity, and connection over time.

My Approach

My Approach

Burnout and depression often narrow our capacity — leaving us feeling depleted, disconnected, or unsure of ourselves. In therapy, we won’t rush to “fix” what you’re experiencing. Instead, we’ll move at your pace to understand what has been weighing on you and how your system has adapted to ongoing stress, loss, or pressure.

Together, we’ll explore the beliefs, patterns, and emotional experiences beneath the exhaustion or low mood. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, our work supports awareness, self-trust, and reconnection — helping restore energy, meaning, and a sense of steadiness over time.
